VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
On behalf of Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI) and The Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI), the Public Service Recruitment Secretariat (PSRS) invites dynamic and suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill thirty (30) vacant posts as mentioned below:
1.0 MUHIMBILI ORTHOPAEDIC INSTITUTE (MOI)
Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI) is an autonomous Institute established through an Act of Parliament No. 7 of 1996 with the main objective of providing services in the field of Orthopaedic, Traumatology, and Neurosurgery. Furthermore, MOI offers research, training, and capacity building to provide the best services to the community.
1.1 ARTISAN II (PAINTER) – 1 POST
1.1.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in carrying out minor service, repair, and installation works in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and painting duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Assist in cleaning machines, equipment, and the working environment.
- Assist technicians and engineers in repairing non-biomedical equipment and carrying out engineering-related activities.
- Ensure safety precautions for personnel, tools, instruments, and equipment.
- Be punctual in reporting for work and emergencies.
- Record the performance of machines, installations, buildings, and other equipment using checklists.
- Maintain inventory of related working equipment/tools.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and MOI business processes.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
1.1.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Holder of Form IV/VI Certificates with Trade Test III or II majoring in Painting and Printing or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
1.1.3 REMUNERATION:
- Salary Scale: PGSS 2/1
1.2 MEDICAL OFFICER II – 15 POSTS
1.2.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend to in-patients and out-patients.
- Attend emergency medical duties.
- Carry out investigations of admitted patients.
- Ensure prescribed instructions are carried out.
- Conduct minor operations.
- Assist surgeons during operations.
- Participate in major ward rounds.
- Supervise medical students and interns in clinical duties.
- Ensure patients are properly prepared for surgery.
- Participate in morning clinical sessions, patient presentations, and journal clubs.
- Participate in research activities.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and MOI business processes.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
1.2.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Holder of a Bachelor Degree in Medicine or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Must have completed a one-year internship and be registered by the Medical Council of Tanganyika.
1.2.3 REMUNERATION:
- Salary Scale: PMGSS 8/1
1.3 RADIOGRAPHY TECHNICIAN II – 2 POSTS
1.3.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Take patients’ x-rays.
- Maintain x-ray equipment and supervise sterilized radiology instruments.
- Ensure quality diagnosis of x-rays taken.
- Keep and maintain patients’ x-ray records.
- Provide technical advice on radiation in the unit.
- Prepare contrast media and chemicals for x-rays.
- Process x-ray films.
- Carry out special examinations under supervision.
- Maintain patient records.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and MOI business processes.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
1.3.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Holder of a Diploma in Radiography or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
- Must be enrolled in the register of the Medical Radiology and Imaging Professional Council.
1.3.3 REMUNERATION:
- Salary Scale: PMGSS 4/1
1.4 RADIOLOGY SCIENTIST II – 2 POSTS
1.4.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carry out various x-ray examinations.
- Maintain radiology equipment.
- Ensure quality of x-rays.
- Supervise and train junior staff in the unit.
- Participate in ward rounds and clinical meetings.
- Ensure safe custody of unit equipment.
- Maintain and sterilize radiology instruments.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and MOI business processes.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
1.4.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Holder of a Bachelor Degree in Radiography, X-ray Technology, Radiology, Medical Imaging, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Must be registered by the Medical Radiology and Imaging Professional Council.
1.4.3 REMUNERATION:
- Salary Scale: PMGSS 5/1
1.5 SHOE MAKER II – 2 POSTS
1.5.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Make orthopaedic boots and compensate shoes under the supervision of senior staff.
- Cast and adjust orthopaedic boots to meet user requirements.
- Prepare materials for shoe making.
- Advise and train patients on how to use orthopaedic boots, arch supports, etc.
- Maintain records of orthopaedic boot users.
- Assist senior staff in repairing workshop equipment.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and MOI business processes.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
1.5.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Holder of a Secondary Certificate plus Trade Test III or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
1.5.3 REMUNERATION:
- Salary Scale: PMOSS 2/1
1.6 TECHNICIAN II (MECHANICAL) – 1 POST
1.6.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carry out minor service, repair, and installation works in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and painting duties.
- Clean machines, equipment, and the working environment.
- Assist technicians and engineers in repairing non-biomedical equipment and carrying out engineering-related activities.
- Observe safety precautions for personnel, tools, instruments, and equipment.
- Record and monitor the performance of machines, installations, buildings, and other equipment.
- Assist in recording inventory of related working equipment/tools.
- Carry out specified tasks related to laboratory and hospital equipment under supervision.
- Assist senior staff in relevant fields of operation.
- Execute quality assurance programs.
- Assist in planning and conducting research.
- Engage in continuous professional development.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and MOI business processes.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
1.6.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Holder of a Full Technician Certificate or Diploma in Mechanics or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
1.6.3 REMUNERATION:
- Salary Scale: PGSS 5/1
1.7 ICT OFFICER II (PROGRAMMER) – 1 POST
1.7.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design computer systems charts and provide necessary systems documentation.
- Assist users in systems analysis and design.
- Execute and document test plans according to quality management standards.
- Prepare systems flow charts of information movements.
- Undertake low-level routine maintenance of ICT equipment.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and MOI business processes.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
1.7.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Holder of a Bachelor Degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Software Development, Information Systems, System Administration, Telecommunication, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
1.7.3 REMUNERATION:
- Salary Scale: PGSS 7
2.0 THE JAKAYA KIKWETE CARDIAC INSTITUTE (JKCI)
The Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) is a specialized hospital empowered to provide evidence-based cardiovascular care, training, and impactful research. JKCI serves patients across all regions of Tanzania who are referred from regional referral and designated hospitals for super-specialized cardiovascular care.
2.1 ARTISAN II (AIR CONDITIONING AND REFRIGERATION) – 1 POST
2.1.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform specified craft jobs under close supervision.
- Take care of tools and equipment.
- Assist in preparing cost estimates for specified craft jobs.
- Perform general cleaning of the workshop and its surrounding environment.
- Prepare and report a list of operational repairs of machinery, buildings, and maintenance problems.
- Assist in advising on specified craft jobs.
- Assist in maintaining machinery, tools, and equipment.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
2.1.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Holder of Form IV/VI Certificate plus Trade Test III or Level I in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
2.1.3 REMUNERATION:
- Salary Scale: PGSS 4
2.2 BIOMEDICAL ENGINEER – 2 POSTS
2.2.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carry out preventive maintenance schedules for all laboratory and institute equipment.
- Inspect and calibrate theatre equipment.
- Ensure safe custody of workshop tools.
- Ensure timely availability of spares for repairs and maintenance.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
2.2.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Holder of a Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
- Must be registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) as a Graduate Engineer.
2.2.3 REMUNERATION:
- Salary Scale: PMGSS 6
2.3 MEDICAL SPECIALIST II (CRITICAL CARE) – 1 POST
2.3.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide routine specialized medical services for in-patients and out-patients.
- Supervise ward rounds and advise on appropriate treatments.
- Participate in the training of student doctors in their areas of specialization.
- Plan, supervise, and evaluate medical services offered in their field.
- Prepare periodic reports regarding their area of specialization.
- Carry out research in their area of specialization and publish results.
- Supervise junior medical doctors and provide technical advice.
- Plan and supervise outreach programs in their areas.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
2.3.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Holder of a Master Degree in Medicine (M. Med) in one of the medical fields.
- Must be registered with the Medical Council of Tanganyika and hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree.
2.3.3 REMUNERATION:
- Salary Scale: PGMSSS 11
2.4 MEDICAL SPECIALIST II (RADIOLOGY) – 1 POST

2.5 MEDICAL SPECIALIST II (CARDIOLOGY) – 1 POST
2.5.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide routine specialized medical services for in-patients and out-patients.
- Supervise ward rounds and advise on appropriate treatments.
- Participate in the training of student doctors in their areas of specialization.
- Plan, supervise, and evaluate medical services offered in their field.
- Prepare periodic reports regarding their area of specialization.
- Carry out research in their area of specialization and publish results.
- Supervise junior medical doctors and provide technical advice.
- Plan and supervise outreach programs in their areas.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
2.5.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Holder of a Master Degree in Medicine (M. Med) in one of the medical fields.
- Must be registered with the Medical Council of Tanganyika and hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree.
2.5.3 REMUNERATION:
- Salary Scale: PGMSSS 11
