1.0 MUHIMBILI UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH AND ALLIED SCIENCES

The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) started as the Dar-es-Salaam Medical School in 1963. The School transformed into the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Dar-es-Salaam in 1968. The Faculty was merged with the Muhimbili hospital, to create the Muhimbili Medical Centre (MMC) in 1977. After separation with Muhimbili Hospital, the Faculty of Medicine was upgraded in 1991 through Parliament Act. No. 9 of 1991 to become a constituent college of the University of Dar-es-Salaam known as the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS).

Over the years MUCHS made significant achievements in terms of increased student enrolment and development of several new academic programmes. The Parliament Act No. 9 of 1991 that established MUCHS was repealed in 2005 through the Universities Act No. 7 of 2005. Subsequently, MUHAS was established in 2007 through Article 1 of the Charter of Incorporation in line with the Universities Act No 7 of 2005.

1.1 ASSISTANT LECTURER – OPTOMETRY – 1 POST

1.1.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

I. To undertake an induction, course in pedagogic skills for those who had none before;
II. To carry out lectures, conduct tutorials, seminars and practical for undergraduate programmes;
III. To prepare and present case studies;
IV. To conduct and publish/disseminate research results;
V. To recognize students having difficulties, intervene and provide help and support;
VI. To participate in consultancies and community services under supervision;
VII. To attend workshops, conferences and symposia; and
VIII. To perform any other duties that may be assigned by the relevant authorities.

1.1.2 QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Master degree in Optometry with a GPA of at least 4.0 out of 5.0, plus first degree in Optometry from a recognized reputable university with a GPA of 3.8.

1.2 ASSISTANT LECTURER – MICROBIOLOGY AND IMMUNOLOGY – 1 POST

1.2.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

I. To undertake an induction, course in pedagogic skills for those who had none before;
II. To carry out lectures, conduct tutorials, seminars and practical for undergraduate programmes;
III. To prepare and present case studies;
IV. To conduct and publish/ disseminate research results;
V. To recognize students having difficulties, intervene and provide help and support;
VI. To participate in consultancies and community services under supervision;
VII. To attend workshops, conferences and symposia; and
VIII. To perform any other duties that may be assigned by the relevant authorities.

1.2.2 QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Master of Science in Microbiology and Immunology or Master of Science in Medical Microbiology with a GPA of at least 4.0 out of 5.0, plus Doctor of Medicine or Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized reputable university with a GPA of 3.8.

1.3 ASSISTANT LECTURER – PHARMACEUTICAL MICROBIOLOGY – 1 POST

1.3.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

III. To prepare and present case studies;

Holder of Master of Science in one of the following fields:- Medical Microbiology, Biotechnology or Bioinformatics with a GPA of at least 4.0 out of 5.0, plus Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology or Microbiology, from a recognized reputable university with a minimum GPA of 3.8.

1.4 ASSISTANT LECTURER – EPIDEMIOLOGY AND BIOSTATISTICS – 1 POST

Epidemiology), Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Master in Biostatistics, Master of Science in Statistics or Master of Science in Mathematical Modelling with a GPA of at least 4.0 out of 5.0, plus first degree either in Bachelor of Science in Epidemiology, Bachelor of Science in Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics (BSc.AS) Bachelor of Science in Statistics or Bachelor of Science in Bio-Statistics from a recognized reputable university with a GPA of 3.8.

Human Nutrition), Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition, Master of Science in Nutrition or Master of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition with a GPA of at least 4.0 out of 5.0, plus Bachelor of Science either in Human Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics or Dietetics and Nutrition from a recognized reputable university with a GPA of 3.8.

1.12 TUTORIAL ASSISTANT – NURSING MANAGEMENT – 1 POST

1.12.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
