Job Opportunities at Kibong’oto Infectious Diseases Hospital

The Kibong’oto Infectious Diseases Hospital (KIDH), under the Ministry of Health, is seeking qualified candidates to join the Integrated TB and Respiratory Care in Africa (ITARA) project team. The ITARA project is a collaborative global health initiative involving Imperial College London (UK), Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), and the University of Lagos (Nigeria). The project aims to investigate novel approaches to integrated TB and respiratory care in Africa and will be based in Arusha, Tanzania.

We are currently hiring for the following positions:

1. Medical Officer (1 Post)

Position Summary:
The Medical Officer will manage clinical aspects of the ITARA project, including the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of tuberculosis (TB) and other chronic lung diseases. The role involves providing clinical leadership, supporting research activities, and ensuring compliance with study protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patient evaluations, including history-taking, symptom screening, and physical examinations.
  • Interpret diagnostic results (e.g., GeneXpert, chest X-rays, spirometry).
  • Lead the informed consent process and administer study questionnaires.
  • Manage and monitor patients with chronic lung diseases (e.g., COPD, asthma, post-TB lung disease).
  • Collaborate with the research team to integrate clinical data into the study database.
  • Mentor healthcare staff and ensure adherence to ethical standards and clinical guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree (MBBS/MD) with a valid practice license.
  • Experience in managing TB and chronic lung diseases is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in interpreting diagnostic tools and strong organizational skills.

2. Nurses (2 Posts)

Position Summary:
The Nurses will support patient care and study implementation by conducting symptom screening, facilitating patient enrolment, and managing data collection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct TB symptom screening and collect sputum samples.
  • Assist in obtaining informed consent and administering study questionnaires.
  • Provide patient education on TB, chronic lung diseases, and treatment adherence.
  • Support patient follow-up and maintain accurate records in study logs and digital systems.
  • Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control (IPC) measures.

Qualifications:

  • Registered nurse with a valid practicing license.
  • Experience in TB and respiratory disease management is preferred.
  • Knowledge of sputum collection procedures and IPC protocols.

3. Spirometry Technician (1 Post)

Position Summary:
The Spirometry Technician will conduct pulmonary function tests to assess lung health for TB and other chronic lung diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform spirometry tests and train participants on proper techniques.
  • Calibrate and maintain spirometry equipment.
  • Record and interpret spirometry data for the study database.
  • Educate participants on lung health and manage respiratory conditions.
  • Ensure adherence to infection prevention protocols during testing.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in clinical or health sciences.
  • Experience in performing pulmonary function tests and managing chronic lung disease assessments.
  • Familiarity with spirometry equipment and data interpretation.

Remuneration:
A competitive remuneration package will be offered as per the research work programme.
